Hon'ble Mr Justice Sanjay Prasad

Judge, High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi

Born on 07th January, 1965 in the family of legal luminaries as third generation, his father and grandfather were renowned lawyers. Passed matriculation from Sawatantra Bharat High School, Bhaga Dhanbad in 1979, did B.Sc. from Magadh University in 1985 and LL.B also from Magadh University of Bihar in 1989. Choosing the legal profession, he joined the Bar of High Court of Judicature at Patna on 21st August, 1990. Also remained as member of Ranchi Bar from 1999-2001 and after bifurcation shifted practice in High Court of Jharkhand.

Joined the Superior judicial Service in 2001 and posted as Additional District & Sessions Judge, District Court of Giridih on 22nd December, 2001. April 2003 as Joint Registrar, Judicial then Sept. 2003 given Additional Charge of Joint Registrar, List and Computer, High Court of Jharkhand from 2003 to February 2005. Then posted as AJC –cum- Special Judge CBI (AHD SCAM CASES) CBI Ranchi in 2005 and dealt with high profile cases of Fodder Scam. In 2008 promoted as Principal District Judge and posted as Labour Judge Bokaro on 16th July, 2008. Then became Principal District & Sessions Judge Giridih from September 2009 to December 2010. Again came to High Court of Jharkhand in capacity of Registrar Establishment on 16th December 2010 and then became Principal Judge, Family Court Ranchi on 01st April, 2011. On 14th April, 2012 to January 2014 joined as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Lohardaga and also remained in Additional Charge of Principal Judge, Family Court, Lohardaga during said period. Became Chairman Commercial Tax Tribunal Ranchi in February 2014 and August 2015 joined as Principal District & Sessions Judge, Bokaro and also remained in Additional charge of Family Court, Bokaro for 5-6 months. Became Principal Secretary cum L.R. Dept. Of Law on 2nd May, 2018 and again posted as Chairman Commercial Tax Tribunal Ranchi in May 2019 and reappointed as Principal Secretary cum L.R. Dept. Of Law on 24th September 2020, from where elevated as Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand.

Took oath as Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand on 08th October, 2021.
